Whereas CIRCLE Creative played a crucial role in The Kuala Lumpur Major to develop marketing materials for the Dota 2 tournament, the privilege belonged to CIRCLE Animation to produce an opening trailer for the event. The entire cinematic experience of it took 4 months to develop from the ground up—starting with brainstorming, to the concept art, to character design and ultimately to a polished result for the giant screen in the Axiata Stadium. The trailer, First Blood, was crafted to portray the intricate design qualities of familiar Dota 2 heroes: so the scene centers around 8 heroes fighting for the first kill but caught in an area time-freeze by the hero Faceless Void; in that space the audience can appreciate the visual and digital artistry behind the game’s characters.
